Fun-Filled Maternity Photos with the Folsom Family

If you’re looking to add some fun to your maternity photos with family, what’s better than near the water in the summertime? And bringing along your little boy is a sure-fire way to create an eventful, fun-filled maternity shoot. Never a dull moment with little ones running free and creating some photo-worthy moments while mama celebrates another baby coming soon! The Folsom family is a perfect example of that.

These maternity photos with the Folsom family were special because I’ve been shooting this family for years. Moriah (excellent name, right!!), mama bear of the Folsom family, won a giveaway I did several years ago. While she may have felt lucky at the time, I feel like the lucky one because she’s scheduled a session every year since. My clients, man, I’m telling ya! They’re THE best.

We met up for a summer mini session on the coast of Maine. As I said, this was already a special shoot for me. Though, I had no idea how memorable it would be at the time. If you’ve been around for a bit, you know that my goal is to always capture people just as they are. Linus is the all-time greatest example of how to be yourself in front of the camera.

Let me tell ya, this guy is a little wild. He loves to run free and express himself in the most hilarious ways. Before we were even halfway through the maternity session, he was running around and splashing in the water. But the best part? His parents accept him for who he is. After we realized he was hell bent on hopping into the ocean, Moriah just laughed and said, “well…I guess we’re in the water now!”

Which, believe it or not, is not a common response. Soooo many parents are anxious or embarrassed about the way their little kids behave during lifestyle shoots. I wanted to share the Folsom family as the perfect example of how sometimes, that’s the best part. And I’ve actually got a whole blog on this topic!! (You can check it out here!)

Kids are kids after all. And if we’re focusing on capturing your family’s moments as they truly are, why wouldn’t we let the little dude run free and be himself?

Because he ran off into the water, I was able to create photos that told their real story. The incredible relationship between two parents and their son. A playful, patient, and fun relationship full of water fights and piggybacks and big belly laughs. Those unplanned, chaotic moments made for my favorite images. I cannot wait to photograph the Folsom’s again, now that baby boy number two is here! Two boys means double the trouble...but also twice the fun, right?!

Here’s a note from Moriah after she got her photos back from this session!

“Sweet baby is a DEMON during photo sessions. Look at him; dress clothes soaked, covered in sand, running, wrestling and certainly not looking at anyone’s lens. Mariah is a goddamn ace who always manages to make him look sweet and tender. We love her!”
