Putting Together Baby Clemons' Nursery

When we found out that we were expecting, I could hardly wait to start decorating a nursery for our sweet babe! As a newborn and maternity photographer, I see so many gorgeous nurseries, so I had a lot of ideas swimming around in my head! The COVID19 shutdown worked out in my favor, as I actually had a lot more free time than I normally would. So, I decided to start doing things little by little while I had the extra time. My husband and I like a very neutral style, which worked for us since we wouldn’t know the baby's gender until 20 weeks.

The nursery was our current spare bedroom (and let's be honest, junk room!) so the first task was cleaning it out. The first step was taking down the lovely 80’s style wallpaper trim, which was followed by the “nicest” surprise. Under the wallpaper was the BRIGHTEST pink you’ve ever seen. Needless to say, the room needed a fresh coat of white paint. Of course, it took about three coats to get rid of the pink. Once we finished the paint, we added some fresh hardwood floors. It was a totally different room than before and it made me SO happy to see it coming together!

I took the dresser that was in the spare bedroom (from my college apartment) and decided to sand it, paint it and put some new hardware on it. Originally, I intended to paint a green-colored accent wall and leave the dresser the original wood. But, after a fresh sanding, I decided last minute to paint the dresser the color I had gotten for the wall. I’m so glad I did! From here started the fun part, shopping, and filling the room with all the sweetest baby things.

Here are some links to my favorite items in the nursery:

The first purchase was the Beckett 3-in-1 Crib from Allmodern. Then I grabbed the chair, which was a Facebook marketplace find for $60!

Our changing mat and tapestry behind the dresser are both from Gathre. Everything they create is gorgeous! The little babe rocker is from Charlie Crane. As soon as I saw one of these at a client’s house I totally fell in love. My ever-talented husband made the wooden bookshelves for the nursery. You can find him on Instagram and Etsy. Finally, the side table I found on Amazon, and the light and footrest are from Ikea!

From local businesses:

I knew I wanted to include a wooden mobile from Treeline before I was ever even pregnant. I also grabbed a wooden camera at the same time. Hopefully, this inspires baby girl from an early age! The two photos hanging behind the crib were painted by Sarah Madeira Day.

My favorite part was adding meaningful items to Kaylie’s room. My Aunt passed away early in the pregnancy and I knew I wanted to add one of her hand-made baskets to have a part of her in the space. It was the perfect vessel to fill with beautiful handmade blocks one of my best friends and her fiance made for us!

Once we found out the gender at 20 weeks, I added some details based on gender. It’s a girl if you didn’t guess or know that yet (you can also find her full name in the photos!) This room makes me so happy and throughout putting it all together I found myself imagining rocking in the chair with her for years to come.
